A few days ago while browsing through Youtube I stumbled upon a very powerful video concerning the passing of the Prop 8 legislature. The video made me think, while I am lucky to live in a country that has homosexuality written into it's anti-discrimination laws, and has legalized gay marriage nationwide some are not so lucky. I felt that something needed to be done and last night, my inspiration came. Following the presidential proclamation of LGBT rights month in the States, I decided I would write a letter to the President thanking him for this step forward and begging him to continue in the fight for equality. I began to think, I'm not going to be able to change anything with just one letter but perhaps many, many letters from hundreds of different people might and so Write for Rights was born.
Write for Rights is a pro-gay rights campaign involving sending personal letters to the Canadian Prime Minister, the American President, as well as your Premier or Governor.
As well, I will be starting a petition opposing Prop8 to be sent to the Governor of California as well as the President.
I would like to stress a focus on including as many of our American friends as possible as the main issue here is the American LGBTTIQQ2S community's rights.
This campaign is in it's baby stages as well... It was just started last night any and all support would be entirely wonderful, and appreciated. I have not entirely decided what the position for the Canadian...front? will be, but the American will be the legalization of gay marriage(especially the opposition of Prop8) as well as the passing of anti-discrimination laws .
I have an email if you would like to pass it on or send an email with questions or comments concerning this campaign, it's WriteforRights@hotmail.com.
So, Please, please If you think this is an issue, PLEASE contact me, even if you aren't willing to write a letter, you could sign the petition or really anything would help, even encouragement.
